"To celebrate the Japananese dancer Saburo Teshigawara´s first UK tour for 10 years, and to accompany the piece´s worldwide touring, a number of international sound artists were invited to respond to the theme "absolute zero", with new compositions. This CD brings together eight artists whose work shares with Teshigawara´s sensibilities of concept, aesthetic and innovation. From Biosphere to :zoviet*france:, the contributing artists are at the forefront of electronica, their sounds sketching subtle approaches to the absolute."
With exclusive tracks from Biosphere, :zoviet*france:, Monolake, Hallucinator, Jiri Ceiver, Disinformation, Hazard and Gescom.

Amongst the exclusives - a new Biosphere track (recorded with Jony Easterby and Ansuman Biswas), the debut release by The Bays, recorded live and featuring Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard joined by Andy Gangadeen and Jamie Jimpster amongst others, as well as a brand new Kirsty Hawkshaw track and live Big Chill contributions from Baby Mammoth and Victor Davies. Add in DJ Food, Amon Tobin, Blue States, Tim 'Love' Lee, Hexstatic and many more and you have a double CD package chock full of goodies.

Track: Vi kan tenka digitalt, vi kan tala digitalt

Contains exclusive tracks from Opiate, Fuzzy/B9, Jonas Olesen, Hans Hansen, Jacob Kirkegaard, Runar Magnussen and Biosphere.
Since its opening in 1991, the Museum for Contemporary Art in Roskilde has focused on new music, sound art and the classical Avantgarde. In the museum´s collection it is possible to absorb video, sound works and different forms of written and photographic material throwing light on time based art - i.e. art forms without a lasting nature such as performance, dance, spatial installations, experimental concerts, etc.
Krydsfelt was founded in 1998 on the initiative of curator Hans Sydow in collaboration with the museum´s director Marianne Bech in order to widen the focus the museum already had brought in with regard to the sonic art scene. From November 1999 to October 2000 krydsfelt has thus arranged a series of happenings where artists from the Nordic countries have produced new and original sound works at the museum on computer; and presented them for an audience at the same place afterwards. The aim was to carry out a musical and journalistic investigation of the Nordic electronic music and sound art, across borders and genres.
On the CD 'krydsfelt-norpol' you can listen to seven of the works - new sound from Denmark, Norway and Iceland - and furthermore, the enclosed booklet contains statements from the artists taking part as well as two fresh articles by Jakob Weigand Goetz and Rune Søchting, aiming at pinning down the roots and substance of the new digital music.
Have a pleasant journey to the poles in the Nordic soundscape! And thanks to The Ministry of Culture Development Fund, the Danish Musicians Union and the Danish Music Council who have contributed to the realisation of the journey.

Every two years or so, Touch has produced a sampler giving an overview of our current activities and affiliations. Following Touch 00 (2000), and even prefiguring its release, we wanted to make something that reflected the increasing reliance on the already recorded, whilst suggesting a more lateral approach to the use of source material. This first tendency is manifest everywhere, from tribute bands, to remixes, to updates or clones of earlier sound successes (Oasis and Blur vs. The Beatles and The Kinks, and so on). Another syndrome has developed whereby sounds are transformed by various software programmes, and what seems to be an innovation soon reveals itself to be generic.

"Star Switch On" is not an answer to such questions, but it is a reflection of the current obsession with ‘mapping’, ‘storing’ and ‘modulating’. We were interested in what would happen when artists were given a 'carte-blanche' to work with recordings that had a definite and undeniable subject, location and atmosphere - the wildlife sound recordings of Chris Watson published on “Stepping Into the Dark” (TO:27) and “Outside the Circle of Fire” (TO:37) ? imagining a perverse take on library music, sampling, remix, all inadequate in denoting the soundscapes we hoped such a brief would encourage.

"Star Switch On" features two new recordings by Chris Watson, alongside Biosphere, Fennesz, Hazard, Mika Vainio, Philip Jeck and AER.

Chris Watson, former member of Cabaret Voltaire and The Hafler Trio, has many credits to his name, not least the series of wildlife programmes made by David Attenborough to which he contributed. In 2000, “Outside the Circle of Fire” won a distinction for ‘Digital Music’ at Ars Electronica. Currently, he is on location in Kenya working on a new series of  the BBC’s “Big Cat Diary”.

The thought of producing a compilation where the tracks were all either inspired by or more directly influenced by the organ had been frequently aired over the years. The conversations were always animated and expansive. The organ works of Arvo PSrt, those performed by Christopher Bowers-Broadbent, a pupil of Richard Rodney Bennett at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and others, have reached a wider non-classical audience. Eventually Benny Nilsen arranged to visit St. Mary's Church, Warwick and work with one of England's finest, Charles Matthews. Crawling around inside the instrument, positioning microphones most appropriately in the Church, or 'capturing' the psalms composed by Marcus Davidson, Nilsen explored the possibilities with all the familiar lust of the avant-garde. As the brief widened, so did the responses... some contributors referred to earlier versions of the organ and its often highly political usage, others explored aged instruments themselves. Some studied the effects of the sounds produced on the physique and the psyche, others conceptualised the brief and either built their own or recorded natural or man-made phenomena which utilised the same basic process, wind through pipes. The organ represents the marriage between acoustic complexity and ritualised space. It is impossible not to be drawn upward, towards the spire of the church or cathedral, or to the huge and daunting forest of pipes themselves. The organ dwarfs all comers, and unlike other instruments, it is this non-musical element which makes the organ stand apart.

It’s double celebrations all round as not only has Back to Mine reached its 20th release but the Pet Shop Boys are celebrating 20 years as recording artists together and to mark the moment we have joined forces and bring to you the first ever Pet Shop Boys compilation album.

One off double CD featuring a mix from both Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. Neil Tennant’s idea when compiling the CD was “To create a sequence of music late-night listening, sequencing electronic, ambient, classical and pop music”. Chris Lowe on the other hand has chosen “Songs about love, friendship, sex, religion, hope and despair” Starting with early 80’s electro through Italian disco, rock, gospel and ending of course with classic Dusty.

The artwork has been created by PSB long standing designers Farrow and despite looking very PSB it also maintains Back to Mine’s illustrated theme. Special anniversary package has also been designed to house both CD’s.

THE ART OF CHILL 2 is a diverse synthesis of classic hard to find gems like Aphex Twin's 'Tha','Ulrich Schnauss's 'Monday - Paracetemol', Justin Robertson's 'Love Movement' and the contemporary craftsmanship from tracks including Brian Eno's 'And Then So Clear,' Imogen Heap's 'Hide & Seek' and Jakatta's 'The Other World.' Hopkins approached the mix of this album with the personable touch and finesse he brings to his own mixes and productions.
When Sunday stretches out ahead, a whole sleepy day of nothing much to do, THE ART OF CHILL 2 is your only companion.
